Its such a privilege to be asked to baptise a little child (or indeed someone of any age), and in 2023, 28 babies/children were baptised in Monasterboice parish.

It’s the key Sacrament, because not only does it free us from sin, bind us to God, and enable us to be members of the Church, it is also the point of entry to all the Sacraments. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states;

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua),4 and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.”5

Catechism of The Catholic Church (CCC) 1213

We invite all those who have had a child baptised in the last year to consider returning to Church this weekend, to recall that special moment in the life of your child, your family and our Church. You are welcome any time, but if your come to Mass this weekend, the babies will receive a special blessing and a little gift of a ‘First Prayer Book’

If you have a photo of your baptism day, please forward it to the parish office, and we will post them here on our website/social media to celebrate. There will be a special social gathering for the families of those baptised in the last year on Sunday 14th January from 3-6pm in Drumshallon Forge. and you’re welcome along to meet others celebrating this special moment.
